Adult Programs at Altoona Public Library

We have several ongoing programs for adults at the library, listed below.  To keep up to date on special programs such as author visits, educational programs, craft nights, etc. please keep an eye on our calendar or subscribe to our newsletter!

Adult Summer Reading!
There are mutliple ways to participate in our adult summer reading program!  Check it out below and join us for our "Exercise Your Mind: READ" summer program!Read graphic
Read, Rate & Win: 
From June 6 - July 23, rate and/or review the books you read to win weekly prizes.  Pick up a review sheet(s) from the library or download one from our website.  Return as many as you'd like -- each week we'll draw one winner.
Play Book Bingo: 
Starting June 6, you can play Book Bingo! Pick up a bingo card at the library and fill in the boxes as you read this summer. Try to get 5 in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally, or go for the blackout card.  Completed cards can be turned in through August 31.  We'll randomly draw three bingo winners and one grand prize blackout winner at the end of the summer. 
Summer Book Discussion:
Get in the Olympic spirit with a book! We'll be reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, and you can join us for a book discussion on Monday, July 11 at 6 pm. Copies of the book will be available to check out from the library.  
Adult Craft Night:
Join us for two adult craft nights this summer:
Thursday, June 30 at 6:30 pm: Map Embroidery
Thrusday, July 21 at 6:30 pm: Needle Felting 
Sign up is required; call of visit to sign up. No prior experience or skills necessary!


Knit & Crochet Club
Meets the 1st Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. - noon and the 3rd Monday of the month from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  This is an informal club for working on projects, socializing, and sharing ideas & patterns.  Bring your projects, and we'll have coffee, company, and great selection of knitting and crochet books for you to browse.  No sign up - just join us when you can!

Food for Thought Book Club

Meets the 4th Monday of the month at 7 p.m., September through May.  Books may be picked up at the library -- we usually have copies of the upcoming book available about a month before the book club meets.  Newcomers are always welcome!
